One of my favorite posters is hanging up in our middle school library and states…

This cracks me up every time I see it.  Obviously it’s humorous because the internet wasn’t a thing during his time.  The message is teaching students to not believe everything that is on the internet and this same message is just as important to teach students with ChatGPT.

You can’t trust everything it provides.

However, a common theme you will hear as you learn more about AI chatbots is that they aren’t going anywhere.  Large organizations like Google and Microsoft are investing billions in the technology.  We, as educators, need to inform ourselves and students of this technology.   Students need to have the skills to sort through the information created by ChatGPT or other AI Bots to determine the validity of its responses.  I would say that now, more than ever, it is important to teach students these digital literacy skills.
